It's a short lasting double and recover they often do. KG never gets his until he's near the post and Pierce, because he's often a little hesitant to make an initial move to the hoop, doesn't get his until after he's received the pass. I hope we're sitting together tT! Mev did have a good post in the other thread and I also agree as you do Mbob and most people heading into the playoffs has Detroit and Boston 1-2 (dis)respectively... I give Gasol a good shout for how much he improves that team, but they are soft in the middle and the triangle offense is meant to get 1:1 in the post and I think the Celtics are built to defend that. Also, usually the best defenses against the triangle load the box and encourage perimeter shooting. We could get hurt there looking at the perimeter shooting of the Lakers squad (let's hope Odom stays cold from outside as Bob mentioned), but that is where KG's range comes in so handy as no other post defender can do what he does (and that includes the full court press beetches)! So pumped for this and it's cause of the posts coming up on this board tonight - fueling my fire you all. I am cheering in the press section and professing my hatred for Kobe Bryant in this series - I am going to experience this the way it was meant to be enjoyed!

I wish I had known the board switched over to Yuku...it was actually easy to get my password fixed, somethign I couldn't do for months on the old board. Anyway, many of you know my ties to Los Angeles and the Clippers and Staples Center, which affords me some insight with the Lakers. They had two practices today, one for show - for the media - and one closed practice. According to many of the players it was the hardest practice they have had all year with so much intensity several players had to be pulled apart before ripping each others heads off. Win game 1 is the theme....but it's almost do or die win game 1, with players wearing shirts in practice and chanting it during running drills. Kind of freaky how serious they are about taking game 1. Seems the thinking is that if they split in Boston and take game 1, they can win three in a row and celebrate at home.

Well, the Fakers haven't been hit hard yet. They have not faced an elimination game. I like that we're the battle-tested team here. Watch Odom and Gasol disappear if the Lakers face some adversity. IT'S ALL OVER. IT'S ALL OVER. And the Boston Celtics are World Champions for the SEVENTEENTH TIME.

Posts: 819 (06/03/08 11:28 AM) VIP Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	This is how I see it: Garnett - Gasol don't want him to be a factor Perkins - Vlad Perk can fall off him if needed Pierce - Kobe noone else can guard him, and Pierce may get the benefit of a call Allen - Odom just has to box him out, Odom won't kill you from the outside Rondo - Fisher Rondo should dominate this matchup if his head is in it Posey will come in for either Allen, Pierce, or Perk whoever is struggling defensively. House and Cassell will have much more impact due to the weak LA pg's. The Laker bench is pretty weak so that may be the x factor in this series.

Duke...you hit on the theme of my next article.... if Boston wins the first two games, this series is over. They will not lose 4 of 5 remaining. It just won't happen. It is IMPERATIVE that LA take one in Boston. The Cs won't lose 3 in row in LA. The last two are in Boston. Focusing on game one makes sense. It should be a real war. From what you say, they understand that. It seems they also understand that this series will be their most physical ...by far! What a game we should see on opening night.

KG vs Gasol KG vs Odom KG has a huge statistical advantage over both players which says a lot about where we should be headed with the offense in this series. Also, here is the same match-up for Pierce and Kobe as well as Allen and Kobe. I understand that basketball is not 1:1 but looking at match-ups here as the most likely head to head defenders I think we are in good shape. Ray Allen's head to head numbers are very comparative to Kobe's and the only significant edge for Kobe (Ray is better in assists and steals) is PPG and even then we are talking only 3 PPG. Ray Allen vs Kobe Paul Pierce actually scores more in head to head match-ups than Kobe, by a small margin, but commits far more turnovers. However, look at the difference in FG% and 3pt%. The disparity is incredible. I know that Ray Allen covered Kobe earlier this year (with help) and that it's not 1:1 with all these guys but knowing that head to head both Pierce and Allen faired well against Kobe makes me feel good. If he can push himself to dominate, he will neutralize Gasol and turn him into a whiny ##%@+. You watch, if Gasol doesnt' get every call, he is worse then Lebron with the faces and complaining. I pray the refs let them play and not give every call to LA.

Posts: 1372 (06/04/08 06:36 PM) Member Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Some of this may be obvious, but here's how I see the matchup: 1) I give the coaching edge to Jackson over Rivers. 2) I give Kobe the edge over whoever (Pierce or Allen). 3) I give the Lakers the edge in overall offense. 3) I give the Celtics the edge everywhere else: The starting lineup, the bench, homecourt and defense. Based on the above, I can't see why anyone would not pick the Celtics to win this thing. Take that, ESPN.

These "analysts" must think that the Triangle Offense is this new unbeatable concept or something...cause they're talking like it's undefendable. Stupid. I believe the Phil Jackson Triangle was used and heavily favored against a tough, hungry, defensive-minded eastern conference team as well in 2004 and we all know how that turned out... I don't understand why an even better defensive team in Boston has no chance now tho...perplexing.

Odom fits the scheme pretty well too. If they attack weakside they will exploit the Celtics defense, but the counter to all of this is that the Lakers defense isn't exactly something to write home about. I think Boston's defense may struggle at times, but their offense could have the easiest time of the playoffs and to me, that's dangerous, because this team can always turn it up defense when it has to. It's always been turning up the offense that's been the issue...

If the Celtics don't have enough sense to know that they will be looking to pass to a Laker cutting around the basket, then bad on them. And the Lakers will always have a Fisher, Radmanovic, Vujacic, Walton or Farmar sitting at the 3 point line - which they are shooting at a pretty good clip right now. The Celtics can't play as much help defense as they would like due to the passing ability of this team - so they need to play their best straight-up man to man to be successful - if they do that, I don't see why they can't ground the high-flying Lakers. . . .

How bout some predictions? I expect a long, tough series. I can't see either team winning in less than 6 games. Putting aside my rampant homerism for a minute, I'll admit that it wouldn't be a surprise to me no matter who wins. But I have to think positive and so I'll pick Boston in SIX. To the other old-timers here, doesn't this feel a LOT like 1984? IT'S ALL OVER. IT'S ALL OVER. And the Boston Celtics are World Champions for the SEVENTEENTH TIME.

If they win the first two games at home then it will only last 6 games, if they drop one of these first two in the Garden then it will take all 7 games to determine a winner. This is going to be a great series and I think Perk and KG have a chance to do something special on the national stage at both ends of the court. Regardless of 6 or 7 games, Boston will win and KG will be the MVP (even though Pierce will deserve it)...
