Perk will not play tonight, Powe starts. In a way, this could be a C's advantage as LA has no one who can guard Leon Powe. However, Leon gives up several
inches of height to Gasol on the defensive end. Overall we will see a somewhat different dynamic up front.

Though I have mentioned Brown does not play the defense that Perkins does, they should have started Brown.
Maybe things would have turned out differently. Wilbon just mentioned that Kobe's steal on PP was a foul not called |

I think that we really miss Perkins' defense and hope he is back for game 6, even if in a limited role. We can't keep letting the Lakers build big
leads early and try to come back from them. Next game I hope we show up for the whole 48 minutes.

Missed free throws, no call on kobe steal, missed open 3 pointer by House...dammit. They better kill them tomorrow so I can have an easy game to watch. Never
should have let this slip away.

Doc started Powe, but quickly pulled him when Gasol took advantage of the height mismatch. T, I think that was about 3 minutes in to the game so starting Brown
would not have made much difference.
Yes, they missed Perkins defense and rebounding, but they had a decent shot to win that game without him. They missed Rondo's ball distribution and penetration but again they had a decent shot to win that game without him. There were some bad call at the end, but really that's not an excuse. IMO, free throws in crunch time were the difference in the game. C's missed key free throws at the end and LA did not. I think Pierce went 1-for-2 twice in a row and KG bricked 2 critical free throws. To me, that was the difference, because it gave LA a chance to hold the ball and burn the clock with the ball in Kobe's or Fisher's hands. Unlike the C's, both of those guys iced their free throws. |

Agree with Surferdad.
KG's two misses when it was 95-93. That bothered me more than Kobe's steal on Pierce in the last minute. You have to make those - even one would have kept it at a 1-possession game. But the Lakers scored to make it 97-93 and we played the rest of the game in the hole until Pierce brought the ball up with a chance to tie. I too am concerned about letting the Lakers jump out to big leads. I will say that if that happens in Game 6, I think the collars will get a little tight around their necks - the pressure to close it out, of not letting the 3-1 lead slip away, an anxious crowd. We need to make sure this is at least a close game throughout. We're kind of sputtering to the finish line now with Perk and Rondo hurt. And is it just me or does KG look exhausted? The dude better be sleeping, although I'm sure nobody will sleep well with the West-East flight and game tomorrow. He needs to score at least 20 tomorrow and stay out of foul trouble. |

Missed this one darnit - why couldn't they have had a Sat night US/Sunday morning Asia game? Not that anyone there cares.....
Sounds like Paul was the only hard-core gamer for us in this one - win it in his hometown. Still sitting well, but the only thing that worries me are the mounting injuries....I think tired or missing bodies are the only way we lose 2 at home. Little worried that Paul might self-destruct - still not sure how bad, or not so bad, he is.... Would Baby help at the 5? I know he is not taller than Powe, but wondering if his bigger, wider body could push Gasol more and/or out a little farther? Maybe not much, but just a thought...know we used Baby against the bulkier Piston front line, i.e. Maxiel and Rasheed, while Powe sat. Powe not suited to play C - really only a power forward, while Baby did play some at the 5....happy to see Tony get some action, as he has been the forgotten man. Remember what a hero he was last year before he got injured - he was a star! Heh - at the start of the series, I would have taken a Game 6 up 3-2. And after the 2-0 lead, I still would have taken a Game 6 up 3-2. All you guys going to Game 6 have to bring it home - it's up to you!! |

I think we're pretty much exactly where we thought we'd be after 5 games. Won the first two at home, took one on the road and now have two chances to
wrap this thing up at home. Can't really ask for more. Except better health.
Rondo seems to be in a bad zone regarding when to shoot and when to pass. The good news is that he seems to be moving ok, and he has played better at home throughout the playoffs. It's so obvious to me that Rajon plays better when he is aggressive, and most of the time he seems so mentally tough, but I wonder if he's feeling the pressure of the moment now. Perk is another story. We could really use him to keep Gasol out of the lane and off the offensive boards. I really hope he can go in Game 6.
IT'S ALL OVER. IT'S ALL OVER. And the Boston Celtics are World Champions for the SEVENTEENTH TIME.

This is actually how I predicted it - two at home, game 4 on the road, game 6 for the win. Still, I had my hopes up for last night's game and really wanted
to get the extra sleep, but another part of me is happy to (hopefully, knock on wood, fingers crossed) see them close it out at home tomorrow night. The
injuries do have me worried though and I fret to think what LA would do with the momentum if they can push this to a 7th game. It should help not to see
Bavetta and Mauer in Game 6 (I hope, but also assume we won't)

Good one Zeke. That was a great movie, though it seems kinda corny now. In any case, Cassell (and Tony Allen STILL) is agonizingly inconsistent. I was telling
my family that he shoots too damn much but of course he made me look bad by mostly hitting those shots. However, we all know that Sam blows so hot-and-cold
that he easily could have put up an ofer last night. You just can't depend on the guy. I would venture that Eddie House has had the more consistent series.
Jug, I was feeling the same way and went to bed not too unhappy. It will be great to see the big "par-tay on the parquet" (I just made that up). During the game, my daughter asked if they would have green confetti drop from the rafters if they won. Told her sorry, life doesn't work that way. I think she'll be glad to see them clinch #17 at home too! Koobs, don't expect to see Big Baby. Powe dropped 21 on LA a few gaems back and he's earned that spot. In any case, Powe is probably the strongest guy on the team so Baby doesn't really offer a tougher option on defense. I still argue that Powe is not playing enough. If the matchup with Gasol is the problem, then just make sure he's in there with a taller guy like KG or PJ. I mean, he should be in there against Rony Turiaf at the very least. |
