I actually think the Nets are playing a game of chicken with the Celtics regarding Davis. Seems to me that the Nets want to make an offer, but don't want
to overpay Davis. At the same time, they don't want to see an offer matched by the Celtics and lose out on him entirely. I think both teams are interested
in a sign-and-trade, but my source says that at this point the Nets have been unwilling to offer up anything of value. The Celtics next move was to put those
discussions on the table and went after Shelden Williams. This lowered Glen Davis' value top the team, but not so much as they wouldn't match any offer
4mill or less. This also castrated the Nets bargaining position unless they go after baby with the full MLE. I think S&T talks will resume personally, as I
don't think Boston is a good fit for Davis any longer. I think Davis is an excellent fit for Boston, just not vice versa. Putting him in a position where
he would prefer to be is in everyone's best interest, but only as long as the Celtics get something of value in return. I think the Nets will blink, but if
not, the Celtics have until mid-January to evaluate the roster and revisit trades for Davis if he proves unable to get past sulking for a lack of playing time.
(Wasn't Blount a BYC player that we had to wait until January to trade - and wasn't that the worst kept secret in all the years the group of us has
been together following the team?)

Blount had that evil trade kicker as well, and we still managed to get rid of him. The massive trade was:
On January 26, 2006, Blount, along with Ricky Davis, Marcus Banks, Justin Reed, and two conditional second-round draft picks, was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Wally Szczerbiak, Michael Olowokandi, Dwayne Jones and a conditional first-round draft pick. Szczerbiak helped fetch Ray Allen, and that draft pick went back to Minnie in the Garnett deal. Minnesota must have really wanted to get rid of Szczerbiak and the Kandi man, that's all I can say. |

Glen Davis is close to signing a two-year contract to stay with Boston, a source told Y! Sports. Deal should be complete next week.

I just read that. Apparently, NJ does not want to give anything up to get him. I can't help but think that this is a tough break for Davis. It will be nice
to have the front court depth here, but his playing time is going to be slashed. He'll be lucky if he averages double digits in mpg. AND, what if they like
Wallace at center off the bench? Shelden Williams might actually get playing time in that scenario at PF.

No, not what Baby wanted. But its a tough economy, and I think teams realize Baby's pluses and minuses, and also realize that his playoff run was
something not to be expected over the long haul.
Last year Baby and Powe were our back-up 4 and 5, and that hurt us. This year obviously Sheed is #1 off the bench, then Baby - it's Williams that will struggle to find time I think. Plus, odds are that Perk, KG, and maybe even Sheed will miss their fair share of games, and that will give Baby more time. The question in my mind is what happens to Scal? Is he behind or ahead of Williams? Special situations? Or will they just hang on to him to deal later? |

I'm also not sure how Davis is expected to improve when this team never practices because of all the experienced players...

Dang, I was hoping to get a little more wing depth in a BBD sign and trade. It's hard to see a big role for him on the team, barring injury. The wing
and guard spots are a lot thinner than the frontcourt right now. We have 3 great frontcourt options with Perk/KG/Wallace and decent situational options in
Scal/Williams. Adding BBD as injury insurance is great, but I still hope we can add to our backcourt-swing positions. Daniels and House are nice, but
they're not quite good enough to be the only options off the bench. We don't even have situational options like Scal or Williams much less injury
insurance. Walker has exciting potential, but he's a good ways away from being able to stay on the floor (more than 8 fouls per 36 minutes) or contribute
meaningfully. If playing time is any indicator, Giddens is less ready than Walker. TA might be an option, but his skillset duplicates Daniels.

Sam, I know what you are saying about wing/backcourt depth, but I'm not that concerned. There are 8 or 9 legit rotation players, and it's only early
August! If TA is used very selectively for when a particular defensive matchup presents itself, I think he has a role here. Daniels is a little taller, but I
think TA still has the edge defensively at the 2. Same goes with Scal. He is not only a great insurance policy in case of injuries, but is a decent defender
and spreads the floor on offense. I'm not counting on anything out of Walker/Giddens and even so the team looks solid for the most part, in no small part
due to the versatility of bench guys who can play multiple positions (Sheed, Scal, Daniels, House, TA).

Davis stays in a bargain deal. Can't ask for better than that! Now only if we can move Tony, Scal, and Giddens. Want to see more of Walker and find a home for Hudson on the roster - i think he can play. Don't want to see Ray play more than 30min/game. |

Jughead, "We're talking about Practice!!!"
So is giddens and or walker going to be playing in the D league again? I happy to keep Baby at 3, and 3.3 million a year thats pretty good. I do not understand why they say terms are not disclosed, but you can easily look them up? Scal knows his role, it was initially to help guys who should still be in college try to play Celtics Team defense, and now its to come off the bench if we loose a couple of bigs to injury. I really do not think he is worried about pt, while collecting 3.4 million for one more year. If leon signs with the Cavs, he's gonna reak some havoc on our team for passing on him, but I like the Celts brass worry about the knees! |

Glad to see Leon land on his feet in Cleveland. Sad that he's not a Celtic. He is a quality individual with a tremendous heart. You can never have too many
of those type guys on your team. Wish the Celtics could've tried a little harder to keep him.
Hater of Haters.
