KG and PP will not have another game like this. Certainly not on the same night. Obviously we lost, but I did not see much in that game to scare me about the
series. Our D was still pretty solid, and we held LA to 87 points while we shot 35%. We're not going to shoot 35% again.

JMost, IMO KG had a MUCH worse offensive game than PP. He missed numerous mid-range jumpshots that are normally "layups" for him. Paul however tried
to do his normal slashing to the hoop, but it's very difficult to get anything decent when the ball is handed to him 30 feet from the basket with 12
seconds left on the possession clock and double-teams coming. Doc talked about this BEFORE the game in the press conference as a problem they had in GAME 2,
4th quarter. Bottom line is the team offensive flow was terrible and it's a holdover from Game 2.
Side note: I lost power at my house with 1:33 to go in the game. There were intense gusts of wind and fallen trees that apparently knocked out power to my whole town and several surrounding towns too (Framingham, MA area). Fortunately, we have one small TV (not the wide-screen in ther den) that was plugged into a UPS battery, and that lasted for about 10 minutes which was enough to bring it down to about 24 seconds left. When that was exhausted, we switched to a battery powered radio and huddled around it in complete darkness long enough to hear Sean Grande say "...the shot is no good, and the Lakers are going to win Game 3...". When you're a die-hard fan, you do whatever it takes... |

I thought they were both awful Surferdad, but Paul wasn't ever able to get anything going, largely because of foul trouble, whereas KG got it going a
little bit at the end. I think we can expect better from both of them.

Agreed JMost and Causeway. This is still the Celtics series to lose. Kobe was superhuman with the crowd behind him and the C's still almost stole the game.
I expect both KG and Paul to have the games of their lives on Thursday.

Yup - I think JMost and Causeway summed it up nicely and I was thinking the same thing last night. 35% is the lowest we will go in this series. I also
wouldn't say that it had anything to do with the Lakers defense. The Celtics took themselves out of this game offensively, not sure what happened to Ray in
the 4th but I thought he earned the right to carry us to victory and he got left out of the equation. Rondo's injury didn't help either and I hope
he'll be good to go by Thursday because the thought of Sam Cassell playing regular minutes scares me, with the exception that he might be more of a team
player taking on a different role and knowing that he'll have plenty of time to get his shots in.
Definitely cannot chalk this up to the refs in any way either, the Lakers were the aggressor and got the job done just as we had the two games before. Scratch that, Kobe was the aggressor (a familiar role for him) and he got the job done. Any other night where we force Kobe into taking over the game we are going to walk away victorious and Ray's ability to make this happen as a single defender on Kobe is understated... |

Anyone know how bad Rondo's ankle is? His penetration really is one of the keys to our offense and getting close-in shots. We need him badly.
I thought the only thing that could derail us is bad shooting and that's what happened last night. I hope that isn't a bad sign - KG's been cold since the 2nd half of Game 1. Game 4 is HUGE. We need to stop the Laker momentum in its tracks. |

Couldn't watch the game, was on a flight to Beijing. Landed some time around end of the 3rd quarter in the new terminal, built especially for the
Olympics. Beautiful place....but no TVs in sight, and wireless not set up yet, even in good old Starbucks. Had to call my son every few minutes to get an
update.
Looking at the shot chart - Kobe got a lot of shots in the paint or environs, and hit most of them. KG and Paul were way outside of the paint....it just seems obvious that we were shooting farther out than they were, and we were lucky to be that close. We are bigger and stronger, and have to push this point on both ends for as many of the 48 minutes as possible to have a good shot at winning - which is doable. Get into a shooting contest, and it becomes very difficult to win. Just keep Kobe out of the paint - period! Still, I think we have a good shot at taking one of the next two - even Game 5. I think so-called momentum means little in this series (Lakers score over 40 pts in the 4th in Game 2 in Boston, and it meant what last night?). I do think home court matters a lot, especially to the non-stars - see Powe and Sasha. Even in the worst case, we come back down 3-2....I still like our chances. But man do I want Game 4 - and I think we can do it. |

First off, thanks to JMost for digging up the chat room feature last night. I hope the language didn't get too ridiculous, some of us were like kids in a
candy store when we saw there was no filter in the chatroom. For me, it made the game more enjoyable being able to talk in real time.
Rondo said he was at 50% in the fourth quarter, and Doc was right to take him out. Hopefully he heals up by Thursday, we're going to need him. I thought Eddie House played well. When he's been in, he's been doing things like playing D that I haven't seen him do. We have to be able to beat the press. I thought the Lakers D was more successful when they pressured us coming up the floor, forcing us to start the offense later in the shot clock. Otherwise, keep defending and rebounding, and the rest will fall in line. |

And thanks to you Zeke for mentioning having a chatroom. I wouldn't have thought to look otherwise.

This might of been mentioned already, but I absolutely do not like trapping Kobe at half court. It's too easy for him to find the open man, and then hard
to cover that man. Double close to the key.

Good thoughts by all. I agree with everything said. You guys are good!
In unison...."We know that." SD...power went out at my house just before opening tap...arghh! I started to set up taping and poof!. Then the cable had to reboot. Luckily I got it going just about when the game began. Hard to find anything different to mention than what you guys have already brought up. How about this....Perkins keeps people out of the paint better than Brown, especially lately. A few times Brown was caught out of position, and Lakers 'points in the paint' have been rather good (40, 30) the past few games. Though Perkins ankle isn't well, I get the feeling it is Brown more than Perkins. I have to admit Cassell is really disappointing me with the rushed shots and one track mind. I always knew he was a shooter, but this is ridiculous. Come on, Sam. Jug, I totally agree that the Lakers defense was not the only, nor the major reason why Garnett and Pierce were off. They were just missing shots they usually hit. Hey! I guess Kobe didn't really have a very good game either. He just hit those bunnies he was missing. lol |

Someone explain this...
Bob Ryan went off on the play down the stretch where Vujacic hit the corner 3 to make it 81-76 and I noticed it as well. Why did they double team Kobe when he was practically at midcourt? I saw KG jump out there and I was thinking what the heck? Sure enough Bryant passes to Odom at the top of the circle who whips it to Vujacic for the 3. It was the shot of the game and I don't know what the C's were trying to accomplish on that play. I suppose some one was supposed to rotate out to Vujacic, but the decision of Garnett (if it was his decision) to jump out on Kobe that far away from the basket just seemed to open up the floor for the Lakers and they took advantage of it. |

I don't know what that was about, but one thing I do believe was going on with KG last night was that he was too hyped for the game and it took him 3
quarters to get control of his adrenaline enough to shoot accurately. Energy alone can help you on D and on the boards, but doesn't help with shooting.
I hope and believe that won't be an issue next game.

yeah, i thought they doubled kobe several times last night when they shouldn't have, and didn't double or help at all several times when they should
have... i guess those decisions are being made on the court though, because i'd expect a more consistent game plan coming from the bench.

Causeway wrote: Woops. Missed your earlier comment on that. If you're going shoot out like that to double Kobe - then really make a play for the steal, not some
half-assed effort that is easy to beat. I remember KG doing that stuff in the Cleveland series and it didn't work then either.

Wow,
I think I just had about 5 pages to read before I could get to my comments. PERIOD 1. Does anybody think Paul is hurt more than we are letting on to? That play where he ran 1/2 way into the stands, i think he would of dove if he was 100 percent On the otherside he had a couple moves to the hoop that looked strong, one time however he just didnt have any lift and there was no finish, the ball didnt make it to the rim, he might of got fouled, but not hard. PERIOD 2. RONDO - really, there is a lot to talk about here. The way Kobe was playing off Rondo was really difficult for us, Rondo needs to take and make those shots to make LA Pay. If his ankle isn't even 80 percent whats that mean for his dribble penetration, he will be less likely to take the ball to the hoop, and thats what makes things happen. PERIOD I just heard doc say that he might start TONY ALLEN. PERIOD Thats a joke or misslead right? I'm still suprised tony hasn't seen any pt against kobe, but Ray has played some great D on him for the most part. PERIOD 3. KG - I couldnt agree more that I hate that double team... my yelling what the f are you doing while my wife is asleep next to me with a headache wasn't a great move! KG was ice cold to start the game. That hurts us, but honestly we need to get him the ball on the block, not that 15 footer or 17 footer he takes so often. PERIOD I mean he can hit it, but better things happen around the hoop others get open, or perk is free'd up for a rebound/putback He was a beast on the boards in game 3 to make up for his shooting... (PERIOD, PERIOD PERIOD) didnt help enough though... (PERIOD, PERIOD PERIOD) and that block on gasol was money 4. Perk and PJ - i agree PJ has looked worse on D in this series than the others. He makes those open jumpers he gets though. I really like when i see perk hustle down the floor, seal his man and get the ball w/in 5 feet of the hoop. PERIOD Thats his game on offense (i know he isn't our offensive goto guy) but again good things happen at the hoop, and perk thanks to cliff ray has got some nice moves down there, and give him a few of those and he gets so fired up! 5. I'll leave it at this for now... game 4, at my house the beer is so much cheaper here! I just watched that plaschke video so i thought i'd make some fixes to my post. PERIOD
