Papi is looking a little better, enough to not force the team to make a deal to replace him, but not enough to assure
us that he's really come out of whatever was ailing him. Still bears watching obviously.
I like Lowrie. He makes all the routine plays and I think he'll show an above average bat for a SS if he's healthy. We don't need spectacular at that position as long as he's solid - which I think he is.
Still those are the two places that seem most logical to trade for help. People always say that "these things tend to work themselves out" when there seems to be too many players at one position, but Smoltz through 6 innings of 1 hit ball yesterday, so what do we do with him if someone isn't moved?
On the plus side, we now have the most dominant 1-2 starting punch in baseball in Beckett and Lester. I really thought Lester was going to throw another no-no last night, looking so good through the first 6.
