To migrate to another board is the only solution . . . there are a few out there, and I think that is the best solution. I don't want to leave you folks, and will stay till the bitter end, but the reality is that there are just too few posters to give this board a pulse anymore. The lack of input from Zeke and Jugs and now tenaciousT is too much to bear . . . and it is depressing to come to a familiar place and find it a ghost town like it's been. Thoughts? I suggest one of the following: JB's Celticsstuffgroup at Yahoo Yahoo Celtics Message Board good traffic Sons of Sam Horn Celtics SubForum marginal traffic RealGM and CelticsBlog of course . . . if you like shopping at Wal-Mart . . . ESPN Celtics Board - probably some caution required or perhaps another where there are 30 or so regular posters at a minimum. I took a brief look at the alternatives and I'm not in love with any of them. Part of that is just unfamiliarity with the sites I guess, but when you visit other sites you realize how unusual this group is for its intelligence, wit, civility, silliness and knowledgability. As an alternative, what could we do to attract more people here?

It isn't anything personal against anyone I don't think - it's just that people have moved on and here we are with crickets in the background more often than not.

Still I'll be a bit disappointed. The one thing I really like about this site is the size --- not overflowing with neophytes and random a-holes. One only thing I ask is that we try to merge with another smallish site to make a medium sized community that is active with good contributors but not so active as to get a lot of rif-raf. I do go over to CelticsBlog but it's just a little too big. RealGM is monstrous. "Shopping at Wal-Mart" lol, good one.

Posts: 2732 (04/11/09 09:03 PM) Juan(abee) Hollinger Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	SurferDad - that is what I'm talking about - maybe go to a decent reliable board that is about twice as large as ours - say about 20 regular posters to our 10 regular posters - hopefully we know some of the members there from other connections - who knows - maybe some old folks from Scout show up that don't are like minded and don't want the overly large assembly of posters at RealGM and CelticsBlog. However, I've think there is a trend for even the major boards to decrease in activity over the last year. When we started this debate last spring, I think the hypothesis laid out was that winning silences the banter on the boards - it really does. Nobody really has anything to belly ache about - I mean you could be a LA Clipper, Milwaukee Buck or Memphis Grizzlies fan wondering when your time to challenge for a championship will come . . . we have a lot to be thankful for indeed.

We have tried to draw posters here. But we're somewhat picky about who we want, too. I think another smallish - mid-size board is the right idea, though I would consider anything. How about FLCeltsfan board at 24/7? I haven't looked lately, but they seem to fit the size we would want. Mev used to post there, too. Mev is quality, IMHO. Don't laugh, but the last time I looked, Scout.com/Celtics was an empty parking lot. There would be the risk of rescusitating Zen and celtics17, but it might be worth a look, if we want to try and rebuild it. Anywhere we go, I think we would have to endure a few 'off the wall' types for a while, until they were discouraged. We are too familiar with each other now. No one posts anything of significance. Kmartballa used to try, but he rarely got a response 'in kind'. I can tolerate most posting personalities, and knowledge levels, except the knee jerk ball breakers. I have nothing to prove with those guys. Too old for that now. Maybe make one qualification..no teachers, that way Yak can't join and break 'em on poor defenseless senior 'consultants'. j/k We are generally an older or mature board, maybe established boards won't want us! lol. On the other hand, maybe I'm one of the guys you would want to get rid of. If so, just let this sit unanswered for two days. I'll get the message. I promise.

This is not April Fool's Day tenaciousT - you kidder you I forgot about FLCeltics board and Mev is in fact a moderator there, and FLCeltsfan and Mev are both Scout veterans I believe - there are a few others no doubt. I'm surprised Mev hasn't tried to recruit us! I'm embarrassed I didn't even list them . . . seems like the front runner to me. Everyone go check it out and see what you think.

I'm more interested in keeping this group together than tied to any particular site. For the record, we are paid up through June 6 or 7 with Yuku as far as being ad-free. I don't know if Jughead still has any money in the kitty and also don't know if the Celtics Green site is free or paid. If we're all in agreement to move and Celtics Green is a paid site, it might be a nice gesture to contribute what's left in the kitty to the new site when we "invade" it.

I also know that the conversation in here has gotten stale due to familiarity, but for me it's a time thing. I used to be in front of a computer with regular access all day long and checked the site frequently. I don't have that luxury at the new job and then when I get home I've got the kids. I can barely keep up with watching the games and podcasting now. I don't meant to be defensive, just explaining what happened to me in particular. I also find following this team during the regular season extremely boring now. There are some fun nuances to the regular season, but it's all about the playoffs now because the talent level and expectations are so high. There really is very limited suspense and other than the late season additions and maybe some minutes for emerging players during periods of injury, there is little to discuss. Some little things to notice here and there, but much less room for debate. I've fallen asleep during numerous games this year whereas in the past I was always on the edge of my seat. It feels weird because I know I should be more excited for the team's success, but I find myself just waiting for the playoffs and zoning out through the regular season. It's very odd to me this new dynamic. I said it a little last season that it was more fun to follow this team when they were young and losing, but that's really gone to a new level this year for me. Hopefully the playoffs will spurn some good solid debate! Either way everyone decides to go is fine with me since I don't have 5 posts in the 6 months to stand on anyway. I don't know that I will move to a new board since I can barely make it back here to my home to post, but know that whatever happens that I have really enjoyed our days at Scout and Celtics17. My favorite day will always be January 31st, 2007 despite the fact that it was probably the most difficult day to be a Celtics fan, at least I was amongst friends!

First - Jug, we would want you to come too, and I believe that would represent everyone's feelings (If I may be so bold.) however much or little you post. Next - Before we 'invade' another board, it might be the respectful thing to contact the Mods to let them know our intentions. Especially if it is another smallish board, we can upset the stasis it has achieved. We aren't certainly aren't a motorcycle gang rumbling into a small town, but we will bring a 'presence' to wherever we go. If no one wants to do that, I can contact FLCeltsfan and let her know our intentions. Third - I can't say what my own posting regularity will be either. I know I've ratcheted down of late. I'm sure I can pipe in more regularly than I have, though. Last - what board did you register at, JMost? FLCeltsfan is involved at three different boards total -- the Celtics 24/7 board, as mentioned, I'd assume.

We all know that life responsibilities come first. tT, I registered on the one that MB links to above - Celtics Green. Yes, I agree that it would be appropriate to let the "new" board know what is happening and why, and maybe a little about who we are and what kind of board we have had here. I can't imagine we wouldn't be welcomed. If you have a relationship with FLCeltsfan that might be the way to go. Maybe mention what we are thinking of and getting some feedback.

It looks like a good site. I was also thinking of Celitcs 24/7 site which I hadn't been to in a long time, but used to have very few vistors and good articles and photos. I just clicked on the link I had and now it appears to be "New England Sports 24/7". FLCelts still provides the Daily Links but it seems the blog component is gone altogether. I concur with Jughead about reduced interest from last year. I probably watched 80% of the games this season, as opposed to 95% last year. My posting activities are way down too. It's almost like, well the Celtics are the Champs now; my life is complete, this season is gravy.

I'm elated that everyone is okay with this discussion and surprised that we perhaps have achieved consensus so quickly. I know we will remain intimately familiar with each other as posters where ever we end up. I suggest that tenaciousT contact FLCeltsfan and confirm that the "Celtics Green" board is in the fact the one she would recommend. I always got horribly confused by the number of blogs/boards FLCeltsfan is associated - I actually don't see the point of that, but if she can recommend the one that has the brightest future and most activity, that would be good. Like I said, Mev is a moderator at "Celtics Green" and that kind of sealed the deal for me without knowing some of the other issues. Also - perhaps JMost could PM Mev and see what his perspective on all this is. It would be fun to take our show on the road just in time for the playoffs. Jugs - where do we stand financially? Could we donate to the new Site or not? Like JMost said, the ad-free aspects of the board will end June 6th or so . . .

We would love to have new members and I think you guys would love it here Celtics Green is a fairly small board with a family like atmosphere but we have some good discussion. The posters here are knowledgable and respectful of each other. I think the members over on Celtics 17 would fit right in here and would be welcomed with open arms. Let me know if you have any questions about the board or posters. Other than that have them come on over and jump right into the discussion! So, if that sounds good to everyone, we can make an announcement on the general board and head over there and try it out.

It's numerous things, similar to Jugs. For one, there was SO much more to talk about when we had the young team, and so many possibilities. Now that this team has proven itself, everything before the playoffs is like extended preseason. The bigger thing is of course life. Not to be a huge bummer, but I've known most of you long enough, I'm currently going through a divorce and am in the middle of trying to move. Plus, my job has gotten significantly busier as we've racheted down the hiring. All of this leaves me less time to keep up with everything, and, you haven't really been missing much, as I haven't exactly been a fun person to talk to at stretches. Hopefully, when things settle down, I'll have more time to pick up the fun hobby of bantering with you all. To echo a previous post, I care more about being able to chat with our core group than I do about what site it's on. I'll head over there and register sometime soon. Hopefully, someone posts a link somewhere.
