Because Glen will get more than a 20% raise: If the Celtics wanted to do a sign-and-trade with Glen he would come under the BYC (Base Year Compensation) rule which limits trade opportunities. For the next 6 months, they could only trade him for a player making about half of his new salary, plus 25% and $100,000 more. I know. It gets complicated.

I love how far Davis has come, and how hard he's obviously worked on his jumper (both straightaway and fallaway), but I'm still bothered by his lack of length. The more I think about it, the more I think we're better using the money on a hybrid C/PF who can back up both positions. But I have no idea if anyone fitting that description is available this summer. Beat LA! Beat LA!

Essentially if the Celtics want to retain his services plus use their MLE it would cost the owners roughly $20 mil (only $10 on the cap). I can't see that happening without some salary dumps here and there.

Davis quoted in the Globe today: "Would this be my first choice? Yeah. I want to win. That's the most important thing." I think he likes Boston and his teammates and I think the Celtics would like to have him back. In addition, I'm not sure how much he would command elsewhere. Of course, my predictions have not been too accurate lately.

He's still an undersized power forward with some weight issues. He's got a nice jumper but still a liability in the low post against bigger PFs. The question is, if someone offers him $2.5-3 mil, do the Celtics match it as it would cost them twice as much? Let's just hope the GM's learned from the Hornets folly of signing Posey to a long term contract. It only works if you have the right personnel to complement their style.

If on the other hand, the team is losing money, or barely keeping its head above water, paying luxury tax - especially in this economy - is more daunting. Does anyone know what the financial state of the Celtics is? Beat LA! Beat LA!

I was impressed that he added that 18-20 footer to his repertoire, and, in less than a full season, was confident enough to fire away whenever he was open, even winning a playoff game with it. His physical limitations are what they are, but I see this guy as a guy who will maximize his talent (a trait not all that common around the league). Considering he has considerable talent, I'd do what I could to keep a guy like that around. While it may seem like a bit of a steep price to sign him for next year, think beyond that - how many years does KG have left? Is it worth signing Glen now to a multi-year deal to groom him to step in once we no longer have the Ticket? Or at least the version of KG we're used to seeing.

Last thing I want is a 6'7" starting power forward once KG leaves. Davis is nice and for the right price, I wouldn't mind having him back. But I'm afraid he and his agent will be asking too much and for too long.

I don't think KG has anything to do with it. Zeke, Baby had that jumper in college at LSU. He just wasn't asked to use it on the C's. Somewhere along the line he got the green light. Frankly though, I don't like his form. There's a little hitch in the shot when he brings the ball over his head. If he is to hit it with a higher percentage, he would have to be coached intensively and re-vamp it to make it smoother and thus more consistent, IMO. Now I do acknowledge that he is a hard worker, so he can improve further. Davis is also a very smart player, handles the ball well for a big man and can throw some nice passes. As to whether he is a starting PF, IMO the jury is still out.

The Celtics still need him for front court depth and his upside, but the sign-and-trade ideas could really expand the universe of teams interested in BBD as the availability of FA bigs diminishes. David Lee signing somewhere will likely be the next shoe to drop, then watch Davis commit somewhere, hopefully re-upping with the Celtics. So the ideas are Outlaw or Frye in a sign-and-trade, but Portland has renounced Frye to get $7M under the cap, which may put a wrinkle in this option. Outlaw is in the last year of his contract at $4M/yr.

He has a smooth jumper but not sure about his toughness. Travis Outlaw has boatloads of talent. The only knock I've heard is he has a condition which limits his minutes, somewhat like Terry Cummings of the Bucks had back in the day. Martell Webster also has plenty of talent. What about his baggage? Seems like a deal with Portland would bring back youth with upside which is not a bad thing for this team, so long as Grant Hill is really coming.

Not exactly comfortable with a 4 man big rotation of only Perk, KG, Sheed, and Scal - for reasons of durability. He should be had for a lot less than BBD I would think, playing for vet min last season.

I agree that we need another big, hopefully one good enough to drop Scal to 5th in the rotation. It could be Baby, but he's probably not the most cost-effective option, especially with the back-up wing slot still in limbo. I'd like a good, scrappy rebounder. Maybe that's Powe at midseason. Maybe it's one of our summer league bigs.

The Magic aren't interested in Baby. So I think that leaves NO and Detroit as possible suitors. Apparently NO would have to do a S&T, not sure how much cap space Det has, but I thought they used just about all of it to sign Gordon and Vill. So it seems to me there is a fairly good chance Baby stays put, which would not be a bad result. I think for now it looks like the following. I am assuming we will get a back-up 3, either Grant or someone else (for the record, I like Barnes if we can't get Hill, as for the $ we have available, I think he would do the trick). Also assuming we get a vet minimum back-up point. Also, we have too many spare parts in the Walker, Giddens, Tony area, as we really need only 1 of those 3. Don't know if we can get anything, e.g. picks, for any of them. Thoughts? Perk/Rasheed KG/Baby/Scal Pierce/FA/Walker/Giddens Ray/House/Tony Rondo/FA/Hudson or Pruitt

I love the idea of a sign and trade with them that would bring back Posey. I would much rather have Posey than Hill because of several reasons, mainly his clutch 3pt shooting and D. Hill gives us the great mid-range game and only decent D at best. Hill won't be able to handle some of the better athletic scoring wings. I like BBD but I'm just not in love with a PF that can't score inside and rebound.
