At best we have a 2yr window with the current crew and at what point do we move some huge contracts to start the rebuilding phase. Do we construct the team to take advantage of Rondo's strengths as a fast tempo player? Or do we still attempt to build this thing around defense once KG is gone? Do we include Pierce in our future plans to rebuild this team? Not suggesting we are done now by any means but I wonder how far we can go as the team is currently constructed now.

Posts: 1870 (05/27/09 01:50 PM) Rondoism President Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Well, if Orlando winds up winning the whole thing, I'd say we keep the core for at least one more run at it, because it's hard for me to read the Magic series any other way than that we'd have won if both teams were at full strength - which tells me that if Danny picks up a couple of use ful role players this Summer, and we're healthy, we have a great shot at it next year. Beyond that, I don't think any of the big three get another huge contract with us. Whether they stay for less I don't know, but I'm all for giving Rondo running mates, which, btw, isn't mutually exclusive with being a defensive team. Beat LA! Beat LA!

For the first time in a long time we have a solid 1 and 5 that should be starting for the next 10 years or so. In the past we had a solid 2,3 or 4 to build around which is harder since the one and five spot is the hardest to fill. But I think this current core will get one more shot at this. After that, Ray Allen is like 34-35 years old which, although I'm sure he'll keep in shape, is just too old. Time to move him... at least to the bench. His salary coming of the books will be huge. I would bring him back but at a much lower price. Pierce is another animal altogether. He's got a lot of mileage on those legs and although I wouldn't mind him sticking around, I hope it's not at the expense of a big extension like with KG. Pierce is just not going to worth a 10-12 mil player for much longer. Maybe a 5-6 mil? We could in a very good position in a few years if the salaries start coming off the books and we don't commit to too many long terms deals (yet another reason why I don't want Davis back if it means for a long term deal). I don't know who will be free agents in a few years but having Rondo and Perk to build around should help entice them to come here especially if they have a few rings to their names.

Rondo and Perk continuing to improve would indeed be a nice foundation. i argued for so many years the importance and rarity of a true floor general, a real point guard. I suffered so many fools trying to explain it to them, Long arguments about Banks, Telfair and others that plainly and clearly were not point guards. Kenny Anderson was the closest we had but he was old and was playing with an idiot Walker and not much better Pierce at that time. I can watch Rondo for the next ten years and enjoy it if he keeps improving and following the usual curve of coming into full flower around the fifth year. Its exciting just thinking about it. Perk's continued improvement will be exciting to watch also. Rondo and Perk? Hell yeah! Hater of Haters.

Think about it- this team was missing its two best offensive on the block post players in KG and Leon and still got to game seven against the Magic who are now in the finals. Take away a 62% Magic three-point performance in Game 7 and maybe we're back in the finals again without the above mentioned key players, you never know. I doubt Ray will come off the bench, and as long as hes effective, I don't care how old he is- I want him. He's the best shooter on the team. He was also statistically the most efficient shooting guard this season, and with increased plays drawn up for him next year like we saw this year, we should still get some great play out of Ray. As for Pierce, I'm biased cause he's my favorite player, I say give him anything he wants ; ) Seriously though, anything that is reasonable, the C's should give him. Niether of these players are getting 16+ million again, I'd say as long as they can still cut it- anywhere from 6-9 with low years is reasonable and would probably keep them both in green. As for KG, when his contract is up in 3 more years he wont be making what he made this past season obviously, I just hope he can still play period. You never know with these knee things. Truthfully, KG's health and contract scare me more than anything else contract related for the Boston 3 Party.
