I suspect Giddens and Hudson will be in Portland playing for the Red Claws - if they're with the team at all.

Rotation already taking shape |

Seems as though Doc is already pretty set in his season-opening rotation. The starting 5 will stay the same as it's been the last two years. Sheed and
Daniels will join Eddie and Baby as the core of the bench. I'm not sure anyone else will get regular minutes.

If that's true then I'm disappointed. I was truly expecting Giddens or Walker( who I know is injured right now) to get the SF spot minutes when Paul is
not in the game. So it sounds like Doc will just rotate Daniels or Ray instead in that spot. Why we can't try Giddens in that position is beyond me.
He'll be on the floor with the other vets so how much can he really mess up. He would be the fourth or fifth option on the offensive end too so he
can't possibly hurt the team at that end unless he truly sucks which I doubt.
My fear is what happens if Daniels, Ray or Paul go down during the season or even in the playoffs? If we don't give Giddens or Walker playing time now, we'll have to live with yet another shorten rotation at the 2/3 spot and we saw how that worked last season. Doc is too short sighted sometimes in his vision. This isn't a young team and it's a question of when not if injuries start hitting this team. |

I'm basing this on what I see, not on anything Doc has said.
I figure if Giddens can't get time with Walker rehabbing and Tony still gimpy, then he's not in Doc's plans - at least for now. Tony still plays out of control and I think will have a limited role as an energy guy. Walker is the one who I think has a chance to get some regular minutes when he gets back. At PF/C, Sweetney isn't in shape and won't be for a while. Williams didn't play at all with the top 9 for the part of the NJ game that I saw, so you have to wonder where he fits in other than as big man depth in a pinch. Scal will make the team but play his usual role. - all of which leaves Lester Hudson, who seems to be getting the most court time with the rotation players. I don't think he's near ready though. |

Update: Giddens looked very good last night. And Doc had this to say afterwords:
"I thought J.R. was unbelievable with his energy,'' Rivers said. "He didn't score a lot but, defensively, and rebounds, and he just kept a lot of things alive. "That's his role on this team. He's not going to be a scorer. But he can be a defender. And if wants to buy into that role there can be minutes for him.'' |

Doc wont lose using rookies. Unless Giddens shines during practice, he won't see much time. There is a limited shelf life with this team and he wont waste
an opportunity to win it all by playing Giddens or Walker. And I don't agree with it.

I think if Giddens plays good D, rebounds well and stays basic and within himself on offense (which for now may mean spacing the floor and hitting wide open
3's when they are there) he may actually get some minutes. Not a lot, but enough to give Pierce and Allen a breather. He's the only one of the
Giddens/Walker/Tony group that seems to be able to stay healthy.

I don't know, Giddens was hurt alot the first half of last season. We shall see....I'd like to at least know if he and Walker are keepers.

I agree with Yak.. Not only should we see a lot of Daniels to lessen the load on Ray, Paul, but also lets get some run for Giddens to provide additional relief
for older legs. Giddens needs this invaluable experience with these guys just as Rondo, Perk, Baby needed to run with the big boys to get better. I don't
want to see Ray play over 30min in any game unless it's an exceptional situation. There's absolutely no weakness on this team except old legs getting
tired at the end.
