I hate to say it but the Lakers look awesome thus far. Pounding the Suns and Jazz to open the season makes for a big statement. I watched the Suns game in it's entireity and it was never really even close. They had the Suns down by more than 30 plus points at one point. Bynum looks very improved and it shows in his confidence. He is being very assertive down low showing very nice touch around the rim. They have very nice role players in Turiaf, Walton, Vujacic, Radmanovic, Fisher, Brown, and Farmar could be on the rise. I know it's early but they have done this without the services of Odom. Walton to me is their Big Baby. I can't help but think that Big Baby's game eventually will come close to resembling Walton's game.

I'd be surprised if Davis turned out to be a Luke Walton type, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if he did. Walton gets a lot of negativity from writers/analysts...but I kind of like his game. He's a true role playing SF. Does a little bit of everything but nothing all that great. He's an above average passer though, probably the best part of his game.
Indiana's off to a good start too. Like the Lakers though, I can't imagine them keeping it up for too long. Danny Granger is playing great and Mike Dunleavy is finally showing some promise. My buddy Ike Diogu is also doing pretty well off their bench, putting up double digits in 20 MPG. 3-0 without Jermaine O'Neal playing good basketball. I hope Dunleavy keeps it up because I've always liked his game. He plays pretty well at the 1 and 2 spot, and his height makes him such a difficult matchup. It's his terrible defense/inconsistent shooting that's always killed him. Also...the Kings might be worse than the T Wolves. I can't think of a more selfish, flat out AWFUL basketball team than the Kings right now. Their offense is pretty much, give the ball to Kevin Martin and hope for the best. Even with Bibby and Artest returning later this season, they don't get much better. Instead of having Martin jack up 20 shots a game, they'll just split it up between the three. None of them can carry a load and unfortunately for Kings fans, they're all expected to. Sucks for them, haha. |

What about them Bulls?
Both Gordon and Deng rejected contract extensions from the Bulls this past week, both and more have been included in Kobe Bryant trade rumors and they certainly aren't ignoring them with the 0-3 record. I think Bryant is a Bull, whether that be tomorrow or by Christmas. |

But do the Lakers want to break up their 3-0 squad?
Damn - I think tT may be right about the Lakers being improved, although they will start losing eventually . . . |

Parsing your words, Bob. Do you live next door to Bob Kerry?
Laker's will be improved if Kobe stays. Not a lot, but a little. Derek Fisher is a plus for sure. Farmer, Brown and Bynum will have to take steps forward and there is no reason why they shouldn't. Walton is solid. Odom's out. Turiaf may turn out well. Chris Mihm - Defensive P-O-T-Y (OK. Disregard the last statement.) |

Re: General NBA News | ||

I like Turiaf a lot. He's got a whole lot PJ Brown to his game and I've got no problems with that. He plays with a lot of energy and finds ways to finish around the hoop. His rebounding and defense are a huge upgrade over what Kwame Brown was bringing them for the past couple of years. It's nice to see Turiaf step up.
And when Bynum comes along, a frontline of Turiaf and Bynum really ain't that bad. They can both block shots and rebound, so they'd be hard to beat inside. One of them, and I'm guessing it isn't Bynum, would have to learn how to shoot a 10 footer because they do get a lot of them with Kobe driving and kicking so frequently. I think they'd make a nice pair. As for the Bulls, they're looking horrible. Ben Wallace is a shell of himself and it was really only a matter of time before he couldn't perform at all-star level. He relies on rebounding and shot blocking ONLY. Now that he's having a hard time rebounding and blocking shots, there isn't a good reason to keep him on the court. He's not doing much of anything. |

Maybe we could have a Celtics-Lakers finals this year. It has always been a big draw in the past. The League would love it because of the TV ratings. I know it won't happen, at least not this year. However, I would be happy with it so long as the Celtics win.

Re: General NBA News | ||

Looks like the Hornets are out fast (4-0). That team is a weak rebounding team, yet CP3 has them rolling. Peja was hot.
While they don't appear to be built to contend for title, they could have a very nice year. |

Re: General NBA News | ||

If David West and Paul stay healthy, along with Peja and Chandler, the skies the limit. There aren't may weaknesses on that squad. Chris Paul really can dismantle teams that don't have bonafide PGs, and can really take that team places it seems.
Not that I'm partial or anything, but I love the fact that they beat LA in LA. Perhaps it's back to being the Fakers in LA . . . . |

Re: General NBA News | ||

Nice blend of penetration (Paul), mid range shooting (West), defense (Chandler) and 3 point range (Peja). The biggest issues is that West is a little undersized and Peja is a terrible defender placing a lot of focus on Chandler's defense against some teams...

T, are the Hornets really a weak rebounding team? I don't know about the team as a whole in terms of rebounding, but their starting frontline of David West (8 RPG) and Tyson Chandler (12 RPG) have me thinking that they'd be a pretty good rebounding team. I don't know about the rest of them though (I bet Peja doesn't board too well).
Chris Paul is incredible. I always thought that D Williams was way ahead of him as a PG, but I'm having many second thoughts. Paul's looking at being the best PG in the league in a couple years, IMO. Really knows how to work his teammates into things. |

Re: General NBA News | ||

Paul is the best rebounding 6ft guard in the league period.
Hornets have something nice cookin down there in the bayou. But it's just a matter of time before Peja goes down. |

Re: General NBA News | ||

Kmart, I don't know what the stats say, but other than Chandler, who on that team can get the big rebounds? CP helps quite a bit, but come crunch time, I think they need help there. Maybe I'm wrong.
Hilton Armstrong is a good shot blocker/defender but not much of a board man. Either way, if Peja can get back to most of what he was, this is a pretty good team. |

Re: General NBA News | ||

I don't know the whole team's stats either...I was just wondering.
David West isn't a poor rebounder. 8 a game isn't bad for your starting PF. Peja sucks at rebounding I think. They've got an awesome PG, a nice mesh of frontcourt players (West and Chandler), and now Peja's giving them so help on the outside. They could use a two guard, but for what it's worth, they're heading in the right direction. I'm a big West fan...I hope he can stay healthy for a season. |

Re: General NBA News | ||

I know that Chris Paul has a lot of people turned off because of his star treatment by the refs waaaay before he deserved it.
But I watched him developing last year and before. He has a great game and out hustles people to the ball and outsmarts people on the court. The kid is very, very good. I am a fan. Kidd pretty much got Scott fired in NJ. I think that he's a decent coach. He can prove it with this team, I think. If Peja lights things up in most games, they are trouble to play with CP at PG. I like West, but haven't really followed him. Nice game...and consistent. Teams need players like that. |

Re: General NBA News | ||

The same thing happened with Wade during their last championship run. Since then people have started disliking his character, based on something that isn't his fault. He's not the one blowing the whistle...I don't get it.
I'm a fan of Scott too, T. I never fully understood why he left the Nets like he did. He got the best out of that team when they were legit contenders. It's interesting to think that Jason Kidd and him had problems considering Scott pretty much let Kidd take complete control of the team. I thought he put Kidd in a great situation to succeed. Probably just typical ego crap I guess... Also, I think 32 called it way back when he said that Durant was this years Jordan and Oden was Bowie...I can't argue with him now, haha. Durant looks VERY good. |

Re: General NBA News | ||

Speaking of Durant it has come out that the Celtics were going to take him instead of Oden if they got the number one pick.
At least that is what Wyc has said. I did not hear any direct quotes from Wyc but they were talking about it on WEEI. One of the host didn't believe it but if Danny wasn't sure about Oden I am quite sure he would have taken KD. Or maybe Ainge just liked Mrs. Durant that much. |

Re: General NBA News | ||

No surprise Durant is every bit the player at least I'd thought he'd be right now. Easy to say right now Durant was the right choice but I still like Oden and wouldn't count him out.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Yi, now in the wake of the Yi/Yao square off. If I remember correctly, many here took the time to tee off on Yi back when we played the Bucks in summer league. Now Yi, and his guaranteed 25min of PT/game, looks like a smashing success all things considered. Very solid start to his rookie campaign. Good job Kmart. Where are you Ghost of QuickT? |

Re: General NBA News | ||

I can remember where I heard that too 32, but someone leaked it recently in an interview before a preseason game I think - can't remember but Durant was def the guy. Speaking of Yi, he has played very well despite my declarations that he was a youtube bustmeister...
