Re-sign Big Baby now | ||
|
Shaq returns to the EC with a legit contender. Baby plays decent defense against him. C'mon Danny, it makes sense.

With Vinsanity landing in Orlando, our top two competitors in the East just made upgrades on their teams. I guess it's up to Danny to see how he counters
these moves.

Fn Spurs get Jefferson for nothing, why can't we get that. Yeah, Danny needs to improve this bench and get some size and scoring before the dream comes to
an end. The Cavs will be interesting to watch how they handle Illgaukus. Does he start with Shaq and have the slowest team in history, or does he come off the
bench which will he won't like.

Yes ugh, and furthermore does Shaq's low post presence make it a bit harder to LeBron to find clear lanes to the basket? Ilgauskas would just clear out and
wait for a kickout baseline jumper.

walterbrownshat wrote: Not at all, WBH. I've been saying this for quite awhile. First and foremost, the teams that currently have the Bird rights for these players can offer longer contracts, and more money than other teams, regardless of their cap space. Plus, they have exclusive rights to negotiate for another year. The odds are heavily skewed towards everyone on that list staying put. This is why I always say that cap space is a suckers bet. You have to pretty much suck to obtain it, then when you do, unless you're New York, LA, or Miami, no one will want to sign for you for less guaranteed money than they can get if they stay put. That is, if the great players even get to the point of free agency, which is rare. |

Word in Ohio here that Villanueva is coming to Cleveland. He won't help defensively but he should get protection from Shaq. Shaq, Vill is better than Z,
Varejao imo.

Charlie V gives them more options offensively for sure. But can he guard Rashard Lewis or even KG? Doubtful. Charlie has been sporadic performer at best.
It'll be interesting to see how a 60+ win team adds these new pieces without ruining what they had last season. And who sits and who starts? |

Artest to LAL? | ||
|
The good news was that Ariza was upset at the Lakers initial offers, and started to look elsewhere. The bad news is that the Lakers look to have
up-graded....we need to get more firepower.

Pau Gasol and now this - the Lakers don't deserve to have these caliber of players to essentially be walk-ons
I'm pissed now and want the Celtics to break the piggy bank - They have to resign BBD, get Rasheed Wallace, and then hope to get Grant Hill to get additional length at SF. Even if they don't resign Odom, the Lakers are going to be nasty for the foreseeable future and that sucks royally. They're core is several years younger than the C's to boot. Damn! |

Say what you will about Artest, but he appears to be that rare player who doesn't put money first.

I'm hearing that the Artest over Ariza could indeed backfire for the Lakers - they've not dealt with a distraction like Artest before. Well perhaps
Jackson did with Rodman, but certainly Kobe hasn't.

It's gives then another great defender and takes the pressure of Kobe to guard the best wing on the other team. LA looks to be the early favorite in the West and to repeat as well. |

If they do nothing but add Artest and lose Odom, I think they are a weaker team. I'm not sure how much of a defensive upgrade Artest is over Ariza. I do
think he's a better offensive player.

Add Artest and lose BOTH Ariza and Odom, so I see your point JMost, but IMO it's starting fives that win championships, not depth. Artest is a far better
defender than Ariza, and also adds toughness that LA has lacked for several years.

If Artest becomes a punk and is reprimanded by Kobe, he just may quit on the team, who knows. Artest has such a need for individual expression that the best we can hope is that he is his ususally egotistic self, and the whole thing backfires on the Lakers. Re: who knows what makes the LA Basin tick otherwise - too much theater and sunshine on their brains, but that doesn't translate to the team chemistry necessarily. Ramirez - the Dodgers did fabulously without him, after Ramirez undoubtedly gave them a lift last summer/fall. |

It sounds to me that Ariza is gone to Houston. And I'm more concerned with the Lakers with Odom than with Artest. I looked up Artest's numbers from
last year and he was a 40% shooter - across the board. Artest is still a good defensive player but IMO he's not what he was a few years ago.

Plus he has been injury prone in previous seasons. I don't understand why the Lakers didn't make a bigger push to resign Ariza. Between him, Bynum and
Gasol, they had a decent core to build around once Kobe retires. Foolish mistake. Artest might give them one more decent year while Ariza was clearly maturing
as a SF. He might even be the future Artest without the issues.

yakyakyak wrote:Agreed, and I think you meant a former 60+ win team, that is going back to 2006. Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva will essentially replace Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace from that team, both of whom are top NBA defenders. Their 2004 team also had Ben Wallace, a former DPOY. That is a significant decline on the defensive side.

Matt Barnes | ||

Cavs are signing A. Parker, Mavs got Marion, not sure if Magic still interested....but I would hope he is still available if Hill doesn't work out.
The Suns don't appear to be interested in bringing free-agent small forward Matt Barnes back. "I guess they're headed in a different direction," Barnes told the Arizona Republic. "It was a hectic year. I don't think anyone was at their full potential on the team with the coaching situation (Terry Porter's hiring and firing). After the season, Alvin Gentry told me he wanted me back and that I fit his style and he'd always wanted to coach me. Steve Kerr was honest and said they might not have too much money." Barnes said that his agent, Aaron Goodwin, told him that the Cavaliers, Lakers (before the Ron Artest signing), Magic and Mavericks have showed interested in him. http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... rnes_back/ |

Anderson Varejao 6yrs 42.5mill with incentives to push the deal to 50mill. WHAT!
Danny Ferry is a moron plain and simple. No way is he even better than the Birdman who got far less. No one, and I mean no one would of gave Varejao that kind of coin. His best skills are flopping and diving on the floor for loose balls. Unreal. I'm in shock. Was just hoping Varejao would go away. |
