Celtics17 Fantasy Basketball |

It's time to set up the league again. We have to sign up for something and get a roll on it. I want to suggest beginning a keeper league, where we can keep 3 players from this year's team when we draft again next season. I am comfortable with the Yahoo league and I prefer head-to-head but I am open to starting a new format. Can some others research the different leagues as well? NBA.com had a decent league last season so we might go in that direction...

I'm not sure I'll be participating this year due to time contraints, but if you need someone to make the numbers come out right I could be persuaded to do it.
The sooner we can find out who's in, the sooner we can set a draft date that works for those playing. I think a keeper league would be fun. |

Play, or we'll hunt you down!
How's that for persuasion? |

Hey JMost, what ARE you thinking . . . too busy for fantasy basketball? Where are your priorities
If you are concerned about time, don't look at me or yak who made bunches of waiver wire pick-ups to no avail. Although I think you made quite a few too. . . Instead, turn your attention to the champion Jugornots (notice I have no sour grapes EVEN THOUGH ManchvegasBob's Open-Facers cleaned house during the regular season, winning an astonishing 11 week straight against the Celtics17 competition). Jugs - you didn't think I could just ignore my pride and take the loss sitting down, now did ya? Anyway JMost - in a long-winded way, I was going to turn your attention to Jughead who really did little in the way of moves all year and managed to do great based on a few well-calcuated moves (I can't remember what they were) and a superb draft (almost as good as mine). For me, the draft is most the fun, like NBA Christmas Eve if you know what I mean. So enjoy what you can JMost, and we definitely will need you. I think we'll have a mighty fine league this year if the regular posters participate - a lot of bball knowledge on the board here . . . . We can talk about format, but I think capping the number of games played and using a roto-based league might be the way to go, that way the last few weeks of basketball won't be so critical when you have to deal with tanking and arbitrary playing time issues, like Garnet sitting out the last 2 weeks of the season As a plug for the roto-league format, I thought playing head-to-head was supposed to make things interesting throughout the year, but in reality, I don't think the format had that effect. The same people will be making the mid and late season moves in either format. |

Well, if we do a keeper league then we are talking for years to come, so JMost, even if you lost this season you should participate just to draft players for the future. I will look and see if there are any keeper league formats out there to make it easy on us...

NBA.com has free keeper leagues - I say we try that league and see how it goes...

Going through the NBA league I am really pleased with the options. The best thing is that we can set up a head-to-head league with a rotisserie format. Instead of stat categories we can use a rotisserie style point system for each week's head-to-head match-ups. This way we still have playoffs at the end of the season, but will require daily line-up changes (which you could quickly set up at the beginning of each week)
I also set it to 10 total teams with two 5 team divisions. We may need to edit that, but I am betting that we can get 10 committed members of this board to play each year... It also allows us to adjust the scoring retroactively where we couldn't with the yahoo league in the past. |

We can also do the draft via e-mail so that we don't have to worry about the scheduling of the draft and everyone will have 24 hours to make their pick before the computer does it for them.

Re: Celtics17 Fantasy Basketball

Our trade deadline coincides with the NBA's deadline and the waiver wire is turned off at the end of the regular season meaning that our rosters are set once our playoffs start. Also, I set a maximum number of transactions for the season to 25...

Yeah, I am a posting machine. I also set the tie breaker so that the home team wins any tie breakers and I went with the standard league scoring system which you will be able to see once we get started...

More Info as I am going along here...
All Star Week and the Final week of the season are removed from our league since they cause all kinds of chaos and unfair results. And, in addition to the regular season, tie breakers will go to the home team. However, with the points system scoring method the likelihood of a tie is highly unlikely... |

Now we need to sign up for the league. I need you to either post your e-mail here or PM it to me. Then I will send you an invitation to the league...

Re: Celtics17 Fantasy Basketball

my only complaint was the lack of ability to change the roster. I played one year where you could change the roster everyday, but the changes would not go into effect until the next day, so you couldn't load up your roster. Frankly, I don't think I changed my roster all year due to not being able to do so.

Yeah, I played a league on NBA.com last season and that won't happen. In the past we have done weekly line-up changes, but due to the injuries factor I think it's best to roll with daily line-up changes this season. It shouldn't be a problem ugh, as you have until 5 minutes before the start of a game to make roster changes...

oy, daily changes? I sense a time suck.

Re: Celtics17 Fantasy Basketball

No - you can set them a week in advance and will likely take you less time than before. JMostly because you won't have to be looking to see who is going to play the most games that week and etc. You should just be choosing who you want to play over another for each day and you can do it weeks in advance if you want and then just make changes as they come up...
Then if you incur an injury at least you can change it and won't hurt so bad as going an entire week. |
