What better way to recover from a Red Sox extra inning debacle than focus on the 2007-08 version of the Celtics.
FYI - the C's ain't that bad . . .

Loved it Bob. Good analytical rebuttal to Hollinger. I agree with you completely, but I have to think that we can't compare PER numbers effectively until our 4-9 guys have played a full season under the Trinity (results could be even better). Let's make sure we revisit this in April, or even with a mid-season league wide comparison again. Good stuff!

Absoluely Jugs - but since Hollinger went out on a limb preseason, it forces us to use what is available . . . and it doesn't mean much because the main cogs - House and Posey - didn't even play with the Celtics last year (their stats were taken for their former teams).
You mean I can recycle articles??? I'm gonna love that!!! Come to think of it, there are a number of article type that can be revisited for sure . . . thanks Jugs. |

Yeah, I think the PER number's validity is really subject to a player's role on the team they are playingon and like you said House and Posey played with different teams. But it could improve for them being on the Celtics. I would be willing to bet that House's PER/min was better with PHO than it was with NJ...

Absolutely - he was quite the 6th man with the Suns, who seemed to use him properly compared to the Nets.

I wish I could tune in with more regularity Jugs . . . it ain't right I miss the show . . . thanks for the plugs.
You should see some of the comments on the blog, some heavy duty stat geeks are chiming in . . . sort of . . . I guess I better buy Hollingers books so I know the pace-factor utilized in PER (but I bet the PER formula is confidential when it comes down to it). |

Yeah, stat guys are moths to a lamppost once the Bobster gets it going!
I already said this on the site - but nicely done. You've drawn a crowd here, some good comments, and nice accolades in at least two other places - Greenbandwagon and Jug's show. BTW...I was listening in tonight when you made those on air comments Jug. Thanks for the support for the both of us! And good point about those guys numbers going up this year by playing with the 'rutagaba three'. Keep using that name, it will eventually catch on. Trust me. |

Cool tT - you are going to have to reveal your sources one of these days

tT - we'll def. get you on the show sometime soon. Also, we may be able to work together in getting some audio for the show depending on which sound recorder you decided to go with and we could plug the hell out of your blogs...
