How Many Keepers Each Season? (Result) |

I'd prefer two because it shakes things up a little more and gives people somewhat of a fresh start each year.

I'm going with 2, unless the 3rd is restricted to a player that was picked in the 5th or later round, or something to that effect.

I'm cool with MVBob's suggestion. It rewards a keen eye for emerging talent. The only question I have is how easy it will be to track and enforce.

It's going to make for a long post, but here are the results of our draft - documented for the future (Actually, I edited them out and put them in another
thread appropriately titled)...

I voted for three in lieu of Mbob's suggestion that the third one should be a player in the 5th round or later. It does reward GM's who manage to have
a steal in the later rounds. Anything that helps me keep Horford out of Mbob's hands.

I don't know that I really like the "later rounds" designation at this point. Had we decided on that earlier in the year, I might have held onto
someone like Hakim Warrick that I drafted in the late rounds.
In either case, I won't complain too much either way, but my vote is to keep 3 players - any 3. |

Hmmm, that is a good point Zeke. Roster turnover during the season has an impact on that. Maybe, we set the rule this way...
Each team will have two top tier keepers and one lower tier keeper. If a team drafts a player in round 5 or later, regardless of the roster they are on at the end of the season, they are eligible for lower tier keeper status and the player's rights are retained for the following draft. The only exception is when a lower tier eligible player finishes a season on a different roster than the one they were drafted to and that GM designates the player as one of their top tier keepers for the following season. Keeper status then automatically defaults to the top tier designation. |

In plain English Juggy...
Are you saying if you drafted someone in the 5th round or later and then dropped him you still retain his rights? But if someone picked him up during the season he doesn't qualify as lower tier keeper player anymore? For instance I drafted Haslem in the eleventh round but dropped him. Mbob has him on his roster now. Do I still get to designate him as the lower tier keeper player? And if not, does Mbob get to designate him as his lower tier keeper? Are treating free agent pickups during the season as just that? They aren't eligible as keeper players? |

In your case Yak, you still have the rights to Haslem unless Bob says that Haslem is going to be one of his top tier keepers for next season. Bob on the other
hand does not get to assign Haslem as a lower tier keeper, only as a top tier keeper if he so chooses (this will rarely happen if ever).
Anyone on your roster at the end of the season is eligible as a top tier keeper for the following season and has precedent over any lower tier keeper claims. |

Too complicated! And I don't think any of us should retain any kind of rights to someone we dropped. Let's just decide on 2 or 3 and forget the rest.
It's more trouble than it's worth.
Also, how many years do we get to keep someone?

If we are going to keep it real simple then I say we go with 2 keepers from year to year with no limitation on how long. My vote was for 3 on the graph, but I
have turned the tides to the other side now. I can reset the poll if we want...

I think we need a time limit because we all might have drafted differently if we knew there wasn't going to be one. I think we talked about keeping a
player no more than 2-3 years. For instance Jug, you would have taken Howard over Duncan I'm sure. I know I took Nash figuring he'd be good for 2-3
more years. I might have picked someone younger if we were going with permanent keepers. You also don't want someone penalized for using a top pick on a
guy who winds up with a career ending injury. Cap it at 2-3 years and we all stay interested and no one is locked into either a great or a terrible situation.

Yeah let's keep it for 2 or 3 years only please. As much as I like KG, he's not going to be a top tier player forever.

Yak, why the 11 we drafted as opposed to the 11 we end up with?

It's how it's normally done in keeper leagues. As far as I'm aware, in normal keeper leagues if
you keep the players you drafted, you normally forfeit that round in the next draft. So If you chose to keep your first, second and fifth round draft choice
this year, the next year when we do the draft again, you don't get to pick in the first, second and fifth round. I figured that's how we are handling our
league too.
It's only fair to others. If I keep KG then I shouldn't really be allowed to draft in the first round again because then I would get two top flight players. But if you don't like your first round draft choice, you can throw him back in the pile and get another shot at drafting in the first round in next years draft. |

That makes sense. I didn't know that was how it worked and I kind of like it. I'm on board with 3 keepers, all guys that you drafted yourself, one
of which has to be from the 5th round or later. That seems pretty simple and it addresses Zeke's concern about guys like Warrick.
To summarize, you can release any player and still have "keeper rights" over him for next year as long as you were the one who drafted him this year?
